Pastoral Care for Africa is a ministry which caters to pastor’s needs that include spiritual, emotional and, physical needs. A pastor will counsel anyone including parishioners, business persons and politicians. Furthermore, people expect pastors to be “perfect” and somehow miraculously make things happen. Pastors are “endangered” species.
Therefore, pastors are faced with challenges of being very tired, overworked, burn out, depressed, financial difficulties, conflicts, spiritual dryness, etc., because of church ministry. In USA there are centers providing pastoral care to their pastors facing the above challenges and ministerial difficulties. Treatment or time away is provided to the pastors in America as needed but until now such a haven has not been available in Africa.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Pastoral Care to African Pastors
Charles Gorge, in his book “Prepare Your Church for the Future”, lists the Pastor’s basic functions :
- To love the sheep.
- To feed the sheep.
- To rescue the sheep.
- To attend and comfort the sheep.
- To guide the sheep.
- To guard and protect the sheep.
- To watch over the sheep.
Therefore pastors need time out to reenergize their spiritual, emotional and physical strength to take care of their congregation (sheep).
